Modesto

Hailed by Modesto realtors as one of the top places to live in California’s Central Valley, this diverse city is known for its arts, culture, and temperate climate. The city is the county seat of Stanislaus County and it is home to more than 214,200 people.

Modesto was a railroad town in the San Joaquin Valley. Once the Central Pacific Railroad placed a rail through the area, the city rapidly developed and became a hub for shipping and supplies. Modesto was meant to be called Ralston in honor of William Chapman Ralston, a millionaire banker who directed the Central Pacific Railroad. Ralston objected and the city was named Modesto instead, after the Spanish word “modest.”

Today, Modesto is now one of the largest cities in California, where residents enjoy a fun, modern lifestyle, amazing job opportunities, and excellent housing options. Modesto’s convenient location in the heart of the valley has made the city an appealing destination and place to live. The city is less than two hours away from Sacramento, San Francisco, and Fresno. Surrounded by farmland and an abundance of trees, Modesto has been a Tree City USA since 1980.
